چکیده

This work is concerned with the scattering of a train of progressive waves by a small undulation of the bottom of a laterally unbounded sea, using two-dimensional linear water wave theory. Assuming irrotational motion, a simplified perturbation analysis is employed to obtain the first-order corrections to the velocity potential by using the Green’s integral theorem in a suitable manner, and the reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape of the function c(x) representing the bottom undulation. Particular forms of the shape function are considered and the integrals for reflection and transmission coefficients are evaluated for these shape functions. For a varying sinusoidal sea bottom when Bragg resonance occurs, the reflection coefficient becomes a multiple of the number of ripples, and high reflection of the incident wave energy occurs if this number is large. We present the result in graphical form for one, three and five ripples in the patch. The results find absolute agreement with available results. c © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Scattering from elastic sea beds: first-order theory.

A perturbation model for high-frequency sound scattering from an irregular elastic sea bed is considered. The sea bed is assumed homogeneous on the average and two kinds of irregularities are assumed to cause scattering: roughness of the water-sea bed interface and volume inhomogeneities of the sediment mass density and the speeds of compressional and shear waves. The first-order small perturba...

Scattering of a light beam from waves at an air-sea interface.

The authors report a new theory that describes the scattering of an upward propagating laser beam from the sea through the air-sea interface in the presence of sea waves. The sea is assumed to be a uniform dielectric and conventional scattering theory is employed by using a modification to the first Born approximation that permits treatment of surface refraction phenomena. Methods of statistica...

Scattering of Capillary Waves In Front of A Semi- Infinite Dock In An Ocean With Porous Undulatory Bottom

The problem of scattering of capillary waves by a semi-infinite dock with a porous undulatory sea bed is attempted using perturbation technique. Two different eigen function expansions of the velocity potential function on the two sides of the surface discont inuity are constructed. An integral expression for first order reflection coefficient is arrived at involving the bottom shape function. ...

Analysis and Modeling of Surfzone Turbulence and Bubbles

Turbulence in the surfzone mixes momentum vertically, transmits stress to the sea bed, influences the structure of the crossand alongshore currents, and controls the suspension of sediment from the sea bed. In many coastal and shelf environments, the sea-bed is the primary source of tur bulence due to bottom induced shear. In the surfzone, the breaking-wave generated turbulence dominates over ...

Effects of shear elasticity on sea bed scattering: numerical examples.

It is known that marine sediments can support both compressional and shear waves. However, published work on scattering from irregular elastic media has not examined the influence of shear on sea bed scattering in detail. A perturbation model previously developed by the authors for joint roughness-volume scattering is used to study the effects of elasticity for three sea bed types: sedimentary ...
